This diploma thesis deals with use of a school garden for practical activities during excursion activities. The specific selected locality is the school garden of Business Academy and Secondary School of Agriculture and Ecology in Žatec. The main goal was preparation of practical activities that might be implemented in the school garden and their verification in classes of lower grades students of the lower-secondary school. The proposed research was carried out through didactic tests, in which the input knowledge was considered before the implementation of practical activities (pretest) and the knowledge acquired was afterwards verified in a posttest. The overall didactic concept of botanically oriented activities was elaborated in accordance with biology didactics. Subsequently, another survey took place in a form of attitude questionnaire, which aimed to determine popularity of practical activities in the school garden by the students themselves. The achieved research results demonstrate that practical activities with plants in the school garden are effective and popular form of teaching. This diploma thesis describes practical activities and related topics during forced distant education due to COVID-19 pandemic. In the theoretical part of thesis, the distant education is defined. I also described some of its features, which includes absence of physical contact, use of communication platforms, synchrony and asynchrony form of lesson, need for some degree of independence and digital competence. Anonymous questionnaires were made to collect the data from students and their science subjects' teachers (biology, chemistry, and physics). The questions were with free answers, closed answers with choices or scale values. Respondents consisted of 543 students and 24 teachers from Prague and Central Bohemian Region. The answers were categorized and frequencies calculated. The values of numeric answers such as mean, median, minimum and maximum were measured. The relationship between data was analysed by Pearson's chi squared test of independence. This study shows that teachers used practical activities such as experiments, observation or creating something less in distance lessons, compared to their face to face lessons. On the contrary tasks based on text work were used more often. The analysis showed that students preferred tasks containing creating something. Most teachers taught in both...

Testing the influence of newly created learning materials for the fluorescent microscope on students` knowledge
Filipová, Jana ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Mourek, Jan (referee)
Among students, interest in Science is decreasing, despite the fact that knowledge of Science can be useful in many real life situations, such as medicine, conservation etc. Science education can also simply help to form a positive attitude towards nature. There are many possibilities of increasing students' interest in Science that could increase their motivation to study. Apart from Inquiry Based Education or Prescribed Practical Activities, working with devices used in research practice is one of the possibilities. If a school doesn't own such devices, there is a possibility to borrow them, or to work with them via the Internet. Possibilities of remote access to these devices are subject to research abroad, and this trend is also starting to appear in the Czech Republic. One example of a device that can be borrowed by schools is a fluorescence microscope at the Department of Didactics and Education of Biology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. In my thesis, I was investigating the influence of the presence or absence of this fluorescence microscope on the knowledge of students. Research was carried out in four different classes at two secondary schools in Prague. Students who took part in this research were from the first year of a four year secondary school or from the third...
